Anisometropic Amblyopia: Nonsurgical Treatment
نویسنده
چکیده
Anisometropic amblyopia is characterized by a decrease in best corrected visual acuity in one eye as a result of significantly different refractive errors between the two eyes. The eye that ultimately provides a more blurred image to the visual cortex develops amblyopia.1 Several authors have suggested that anisometropia is the leading cause of amblyopia and is responsible for approximately 50% of all cases.2,3 Without the presence of ptosis or strabismus as a visible warning sign, these patients may

Visual Acuity Improvement in Continuous vs Divided Occlusion in Anisometropic Amblyopia
Purpose To compare visual acuity improvement between continuous and split part-time occlusion for the treatment of moderate and severe anisometropic amblyopia. Methods Randomised clinical trials in 6 - 13 y.o children with moderate and severe anisometropic amblyopia. Each patient was consecutively selected with continuous or split part-time occlusion. Best corrected visual acuity's improvemen...
متن کاملVisual functions and interocular interactions in anisometropic children with and without amblyopia.
PURPOSE In uncorrected anisometropia, protracted dichoptic stimulation may result in interocular inhibition, which may be a contributing factor in amblyopia development. This study investigates the relationship between interocular interactions and anisometropic amblyopia. METHODS Three visual functions (low-contrast acuity, contrast sensitivity, and alignment sensitivity) were measured in the...
متن کاملContour integration deficits in anisometropic amblyopia.
PURPOSE Previous retrospective studies have found that integration of orientation information along contours defined by Gabor patches is abnormal in strabismic, but not in anisometropic, amblyopia. This study was conducted to reexamine the question of whether anisometropic amblyopes have contour integration deficits prospectively in an untreated sample, to isolate the effects of the disease fro...
متن کاملMechanisms underlying perceptual learning of contrast detection in adults with anisometropic amblyopia.
What underlies contrast sensitivity improvements in adults with anisometropic amblyopia following perceptual learning in grating contrast detection? In this paper, we adopted the external noise approach (Z.-L. Lu & B. A. Dosher, 1998) to identify the mechanisms underlying perceptual learning in adults with anisometropic amblyopia. By measuring contrast thresholds in a range of external noise co...
متن کاملPhotorefractive keratectomy for anisometropic amblyopia in children.
PURPOSE To assess the safety and efficacy of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) in children with anisometropic amblyopia and to define the characteristics of children who may be candidates for PRK. METHODS This thesis comprises four parts: (1) a retrospective analysis of risk factors predictive of amblyopia treatment failure in 104 children, (2) a prospective study of pachymetry in 198 eyes of...
